HAITI EARTHQUAKE
RELIEF PROJECT
Update #1:
We were able to help with the cholera outbreak which occurred in Jacmel. Please read the response that we received for the cholera medicine flown in by David Robertson and also a water filtration plant which has been installed at the church site for the people to receive clean, fresh water.
I asked Sarah Bennett about further need for medicine, and this was her response after speaking with Pastor Cherubin (Pastor D).
"Pastor D checked with all the agencies involved in treating the cholera (Public Health, Doctors w/o Boarders, Red Cross) and they feel like the epidemic is under control. When the epidemic started two weeks ago, they were seeing over 125 patients per day. Just in the last two days, they are only seeing about 25 patients per day and there have been no deaths. These agencies are doing a lot of seminars on prevention control. The public is responding well.
MFH and all the agencies listed above are extremely grateful to ORH for the cholera meds that you so quickly sent directly to Jacmel. This was truly a miracle because of the political situation in PAP that caused the shut-down of the airport for several days. The crisis came at a very bad time, but God used ORH and a dedicated pilot to get the help into Jacmel that was so desperately needed. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. May God’s blessings continue to sustain your ministry as you meet these critical needs around the world."
This is the message which was sent back by Sarah about the water filtration plant.
"The filtration plant is working so well. There are lines to get the water all day long. We will have some pictures very soon.
Again, our hearts are full of gratitude for this life-saving blessing. Thank you!!!!"
The well is in the Hosanna Baptist Church yard where Pastor Cherubin is pastor. The people from Jacmel and surrounding villages are coming to the church to get the fresh water from the church yard. Pastor Cherubin is being faithful to give them the "Water of Life" as well. Pastor Cherubin's church has grown overwhelmingly since the earthquake.
Update #2:
Another house is being built for a family in Haiti. The home will cost $4000.00. Operation Renewed Hope has committed the money for the house. Read below and see the blessing of God in this family.
Sarah Bennett of Mission for Haiti has written the following.
"From the lottery to THE LORD! A family across the street from our house, whose dad made his living from selling lottery tickets, accepted Christ as Savior. Their 22-year-old daughter, Fabi, had been sick from satanic attacks for over two years. We would hear her screaming in the middle of the night from these attacks. After many witnessing attempts, the family came to the end of themselves.
Finally, the father confessed with a broken heart: “Satan has spent us poor with witchdoctors in an attempt to heal our daughter, and she is still sick. When God heals, He doesn’t charge a cent.” One by one, the family members came to Christ.
Sarah was careful not to prompt Fabi because she seemed very spacey from her frequent attacks. However, daily prayer and reading the Word in the home started a healing effect on Fabi. Then one day she asked Sarah to pray with her to accept Christ. She was gloriously saved and has not had any more attacks. The father closed up the lottery booth, and now works construction jobs.
This family’s faithfulness to church has been remarkable. Their zeal and love for the Lord has been a wonderful testimony in the neighborhood. Sarah will be starting a Bible study in their home when she returns. Please keep them in prayer.
Please pray for this family. After learning of their salvation exsperience, ORH committed to pay for the construction of a home to replace the home they lost in the earthquake.
Update #3:
Many of you were very generous in your giving to help the people of Haiti. The work there is still on-going, and ORH has sent Mike and Donna Abbott into the country to review all the work sites for ORH. We wanted to know the progress, and we were so blessed by Mike and Donna's report.
Below is that report. I hope you will read it with joy and anticipation.
What a great work God is doing through His faithful servants in Haiti!
St. Raphael The Bowers
On June 3rd, Donna and I visited with Tim Bower and family in St. Raphael, Haiti. The Lord is using the Bowers greatly for His kingdom. The Bowers and Pearts, have planted seven churches with national pastors. In addition, a seminary, a women’s college, and a school for children has been started.
On June 5th, 2011 we attended Maranatha Baptist Church and after beautiful singing and specials; Tim Bower preached a powerful message on making the right choices between good and evil. These born-again Haitians are materially poor, but they are rich in Christ.
Tim Bower is adding a second floor to the seminary building, and a portion of this floor will house the new ORH water filtration plant. The water source is a filtered well on the property which even though filtered transmission of disease is still a problem. The purified water will be piped to the Bower’s house, the Peart’s house, and a secure access for the public. Tim hopes to start offering the water in July or August of 2011.
Petit Goave Macedonia Baptist Church & Pastor Frank Supris
On June 6th, 2011 Pastor Tim Bower drove Donna and I twelve hours to Jacmel (one hour spent with truck repairs) where we lodged at the “Mission for Haiti” home. The next day, we rode 2.5 hours to Petit Goave to see the newly finished Macedonia Baptist Church auditorium for which ORH supplied partial funding and Restore Ministries provided the labor. Pastor Frank Supris played his accordion; we sang; and later, we prayed together. After the great fellowship, we visited his school building which still needs a new roof.
Jacmel Hosanna Baptist Ministries & Mission for Haiti (Bennetts)
On June 8th, we visited three homes which ORH directly helped to rebuild for the 2010 earthquake victims. These people have been very faithful church members. We met with Bathelemy Elicier whose home was rebuilt by Community Baptist of Garner, NC. We also visited with a family in a home rebuilt by a team from Heritage Baptist Church of New York City.
We also visited the “Motel 6” which is an apartment complex for five families which ORH helped to build. These families are the poorest of the poor who had also lost their simple homes in the earthquake. Mrs. Sarah Bennett has held regular Bible studies with these families for years. Two of the couples were saved and were recently married. We encouraged these families singing with them and praying.
Please pray for Frisner Eliscar, one of the residents of this complex, who is very sick, with possibly only a few weeks to live. This is the husband of one of the newlyweds. We were able to communicate with Dr. Brinson McGowan at the nearby BMM Hospital about Frisner he said he would help him free of charge. Mrs. Sarah Bennett of Missions for Haiti and Pastor Dieupie Cherubin of Hosanna Baptist said they would make sure that Frisner got to Dr. McGowan.
Tim Bower, Donna, and I had a preliminary meeting with Dr. Brinson McGowan and Dr. Alex Philippe at the McGowan home in Cayes-de-Jacmel. We discussed the possibility of ORH installing a water filtration plant at the BMM Hospital. Wednesday night we attended Hosanna Baptist Church, and Pastor Cherubin interpreted as I assured the brothers and sisters of ORH’s desire to help them and their people.
Cayes-de-Jacmel BMM Hospital (Dr. Brinson McGowan and Dr. Alex Philippe)
On June 9th, Tim Bower and I met with Dieupie Cherubin to see and learn about the operation of the water filtration system provided by ORH. As a result of the plant, the Gospel is being proclaimed to many people along with the pure drinking water. Pure water was not affordable to most people in Jacmel.
After Dr. Philippe finished in surgery, Tim Bower, Dieupie Cherubin, and I met with Dr. McGowan and Dr. Philippe at the hospital in Cayes-de-Jacmel. In this meeting, we explained the water filtration system; and Dr. Philippe assured us that he would be responsible to train the right people to operate the system. He also said it would be a great evangelistic opportunity as they offered the purified water to the people of Cayes-de-Jacmel, who now drive 10 miles to get water from Jacmel.
On June 10th, 2011 we rode with Tim Bower to the Port-au-Prince airport. We arrived with time to spare for our flight home.
We hope this has been a blessing. God is doing a great work in Haiti. ORH is blessed to be there through your giving. Thank you so much.
