Operation Renewed Hope: MEDICAL MISSIONS: WORLDWIDE: PAST

Week-Long ORH Medical Missions

NIAS, INDONESIA
MEDICAL MISSION

Mission Update #1

From Jan Milton, ORH Director & Founder

I am back - The conditions in Indonesia are very bad. The Island of Nias is like a war zone. The second earthquake and tsunami devastated the island again. The hospital in the main northern city of Gunung Sitoli looks like a bombed out building in many places.

We were able to get the process of electricity back to the hospital. Parts of the hospital had electricity, but many parts did not. The day we left, they were placing a huge generator, which had been donated, but that no one knew what to do with. We paid about $1500 to get skilled workman to set and install the generator. Hopefully, much of the hospital now has electricity again.

The water plants which we shipped in February were non-functional due to the second earthquake. We were able to make contact with the manufacturer of the water plant in South Carolina through sattelite email. They were able to supply us with a person who could help us get the water units back up and running. The plan was for this person to fly in from Jakarta and work on the units. We believe they will be up and running by the end of this week. The hospital desparately needs the water.

We were able to get a Siemens X-ray machine working for them. They were using a unit from Inodnesia which gave them a very bad X-ray. They could not read English, so they could not make it work properly. We were able to read the manual and contact a biotech in Atlanta through satellite email. We were able to get the good machine working. They were taking great X-rays when we left.

The churches were encouraged by our visit. One of the churches had 6 families whose houses were completely destroyed. We are hoping to rebuild those homes. We need to raise $30,000 to build 6 homes. We have a design and can build the homes. The church would be so happy if we would help their community, so they can have a greater witness to the community. We would only rough-in the home - It would be up to the people to finish it. This way in a 2-week stay, we would definitely get the homes up for at least living. Everything is very poor in the community.

We were able to get full government permission to conduct medical clinics. They were so happy that we were coming to help them. The area to which we will go is very primitive. I had to hike 5KM through the jungle, rice paddies, and climb a mountain to reach a village of 230 families without medical care. This will be a very difficult clinic. But God is able. Everywhere we went, we were able to give the Gospel and people responded.

God Bless,
- Jan Milton

Mission Update #1

From Jan Milton, ORH Director & Founder

Nias, Indonesia became the site of our 2005 November clinic. This island is about 200 miles to the west off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia and was greatly impacted by the earthquake and tsunami. The island schools, hospitals, homes, businesses, and harbors were left devastated by the destructive power of the December, 2004, catastrophe.

The Operation Renewed Hope medical team went with hope to be of assistance to the people of Nias. The team went to the southern region of the island to conduct clinics. This region is remote and at places very primitive. The people in this region have very limited access to medical care. Our Nias team consisted of medical professionals from the United States, Panama, Japan, and Indonesia. We had tremendous support and translator help. The total patient load was 1200 patients in 4.5 days.

Our team ministered to 4 villages, in south Nias close to the town of Teluk Dalam. Our base camp was set in one of the major villages where we conducted our largest clinic taking two days to complete. The first day we traveled to a mountain village which required an early morning walk of almost 3 hours. We rose at 4:30 am, ate breakfast, and traveled to the beginning point of the jungle path. We started to walk the trail as soon as the sun’s light would help us to identify the trail. The trail was a mixture of hard surfaces, sinking mud surfaces, fallen tree bridges, swinging bridges, rice-paddy dams, and extremely steep climbs for long durations. We repeated this process on the third day of clinic for our second mountain village clinic. The hardest walk was the one our which require great stamina after conducting a clinic all day.

Our evangelist Tom Farrell made each trip the night before the medical team in order to conduct evangelism meetings. In his meetings at each site many people came to Christ. It is known that over 500 people trusted Christ. The pastors in the villages where we held the clinics were elated at the number of people who were reached for Christ. They have asked us to return to their island to do both medical clinics and gospel ministry. We know they will personally follow up on these who have professed Christ.

Please continue to pray for our team and for future teams to all these Asian nations.

God Bless,
- Jan Milton

PANAMA MEDICAL MISSION

From Jan Milton, ORH Director & Founder

We are so thankful for God's provision. We have just received word that our medical shipment to Panama was a great blessing. Señor Antonio Enruquez has sent us word that our shipment has been distributed. He represents the Eduardo Morgan Foundation of Panama. This group received a shipment of 30 (thirty) C-130 pallets (a shipment large enough to fill a C-5A Galaxy US Air Force plane). The Panama Canal Commission is providing warehousing for the materials until all distribution can be achieved.

This summer our Dr. Waller and two other professionals traveled with the medical team of Panama to conduct a major clinic. What a blessing to see the medical team do the work of the Lord. The work was blessed with several souls coming to Christ. Please continue to pray for our very faithful friend and co-laborer in the Lord, Jim Childress, as he works in Panama to win many to Him.

God Bless,
- Jan Milton

NOTE: The following is a thank-you letter sent to ORH from the Eduardo Enriquez Foundation:

Dear Pastor Milton,

The donations had been stored in a warehouse in the old canal area of Balboa were the Panama Canal Authority, with whom we have a working understanding, have a big area with storage spaces.

From there, we distributed them to different areas by truck, according to the size and needs of the areas.

Donations were sent to public hospitals for NGO's, who care for the persons of low income or are located in poor and remote areas of Panama.

For obvious reasons, we could not cover the entire country, so any other donations in the future will be going to other areas in need of Panama.

We know that without the dedication and assistance of ORH, and your Pastor Milton, we cold not reach so many of our needy. So, in may name, and the people of Panama - God Bless you all for the help.

Best Regards,
- Antonio Enriquez

RIO BRAVO, MEXICO MEDICAL MISSION

From Jan Milton, ORH Director & Founder

We have just finished a shipment to Mexico. This shipment was in support of our summer clinic in Rio Bravo, where over 300 people accepted Christ.

The shipment constituted a full 48 ft. trailer full of needed medical supplies. Mr. Ralph Roberts and Dr. Greg Waller took the truck to the border of Texas and Mexico, where the materials were transferred to the care of the DIF of Mexico through missionary Charles Strong.

God Bless,
- Jan Milton

GUYANA MEDICAL MISSION

From Jan Milton, ORH Director & Founder

We also just finished a shipment to the ports of Miami for the country of Guyana. This shipment consisted of 3 trucks. This shipment is in support of our November clinic in Guyana.

Dr. Tom Farrell will be our evangelist for this clinic scheduled for Nov. 18 - 24th, 2006. Pray that many will be able to follow-up all the people that are saved.

God Bless,
- Jan Milton
